The Races

Reliving past glories? Challenging your mates? Testing yourself? New to racing? We have racing of all sorts to suit all abilities and ages – enter today!

GT Bicycles Dual Slalom

Dual Slalom is the purest and most crowd-pleasing form of head to head mountain bike racing where the rivalry is the name of the game. We pit two racers against each other to do battle, with one aim, to beat the other competitor to the finish line!

The two competitors race head-to-head down two similar but separate courses. Following a qualification round, riders race against each other in an elimination format (heats) to determine the winner.

A BMX style start gate will fire the riders down the natural and flowing course on Friday evening. The course features a number of colour coded gates for the riders to pass on the open grass cornered course. Expect the fastest times to be sub 30 seconds on this entry-level course.

Race entries are limited to 200 riders for the Men and 50 for the Women with the top 64 men and the top 16 women going through to the finals. This will be calculated from your one timed run. Please note you must also purchase a festival ticket to enter the festival, even if you have purchased a race entry.

Cannondale Cross Country (XCO)

Cross Country ‘XCO’ races are held over multiple laps of an undulating circuit and have evolved massively in recent years: Technical skill is now as important as fitness to be successful. Riding the course you should expect everything from blazing fast descents to technical singletrack and lung searing climbs, giving everyone the chance to shine.

The course is estimated to be 5km long and will climb up the Classic Climb and along the ‘Cannondale Ridge’ before cutting its way back down and up the hill towards Peacock Villa and the Obelisk. The descent will be long and fast taking in the natural features of the hill. Please note you must also purchase a festival ticket to enter the festival, even if you have purchased a race entry.

The MBUK Legends will be the last riders down after the Elites for both runs.

The invites have gone out to those who paved the way for modern day mountain biking. These riders pushed the limits back in the day when cantilever brakes where the norm, suspension in some cases hadn’t even been invented – let alone disk brakes! They showed us what could be achieved with narrow bars, long stems and 48t chain rings!

So it’s time to show your respect and come and cheer them on as some of them are now in their 50’s and will need help getting back up the hill…
